Emerging Leaders' Style and Vision

Where do you see yourself and your union in the future?  This workshop will challenge and inspire the next generation of labor leaders to help them advance to the next level of leadership.    Students will learn their leadership style and develop and refine their vision to make sure it is actionable and aligned with their union's objectives, goals, and values.

Examining Discrimination and Harassment in the Workplace

This interactive workshop will examine the legacy of landmark Civil Rights' legislation.  Students will examine the different forms of discrimination, the consequences of violating anti-discrimination laws, and learn what union members can do to prevent workplace discrimination and harassment. Also, students will discuss the impact of diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace and society.

A union is a mini democracy, and as a member, you have rights and responsibilities, this workshop is designed for persons new to the union movement that want to become involved.

Pre-Apprenticeship Programs - Preparing For a More Diverse & Inclusive Workforce

Pre-apprenticeship programs provide skills that assist participants in forming the foundations of their careers that can last a lifetime. Union Building & Construction Trades registered apprenticeship programs provide individuals with current and relevant skills that will lead to careers with family sustaining wages, benefits and the opportunity to retire with dignity.  This workshop will provide the basics for implementing a successful pre-apprentice program and share "best practices" for retaining and growing a successful program.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - Building A Respectful Workplace

The workplace is a rapidly changing environment. As the workforce continues to grow and jobs continue to be added, an increasing number of diverse employees are joining the workforce. This includes people of color, foreign nationals, people from different religions and sexual orientations, and even people of younger and older generations. Knowing how to communicate with employees based on their role in the workplace and not on what makes them a diverse/different coworker is an important part of helping to promote balance, equality, and growth in your organization. This workshop will explore techniques and share learning opportunities for building an inclusive and representative workforce.
