Killing of Children in Texas

CBTU statement on the recent murders in Ovualde, Texas

On May 24th, 2022, an 18-year-old shot his grandmother, got in a truck, drove to Robb Elementary School and murder 18 children between the ages of 7-11 and 3 adults. More are injured and there are no words to describe the suffering the Uvalde community is facing. CBTU sends our prayers to the victims, their families, and those impacted by this horrific act of violence.

The United States, President Biden, Congress, and the Senate need to act. We need our political leaders to lead and protect us, especially our babies. We need our laws to protect and service, not support and encourage killers. There is no constitutional amendment that supports this act and permits the slaughter of innocents in the name of gun ownership. The government needs to act and needs to act quickly with the same veracity we saw when they sent $40 billion dollars to the Ukraine.

As a nation we need to also act. These killers do not grow up in a vacuum. They are angry and unwell and find comfort amongst the misery of others. Our children are no longer safe. We would rather teach our kids how to dodge a mass shooting instead of investing in mental health services, gun regulations, and societal reform.

CBTU will continue to demand change. We will continue to fight for our communities while we also mourn and grieve with those suffering. Over 18 families are suffering. Children have paid the price for the failures of adults. We must do better. These killings must stop.
